Why is Nityananda to the right of Gauranga and Radha to the left of Krishna?
Ever wondered why Nityananda is on our left and Gauranga is on our right, whereas Krishna is on our left and Radha is on our right in Their Deities, even though Nityananda and Radha are both the topmost devotees of Gauranga and Krishna? Shouldn’t They both be on the left of Gauranga and Krishna resp.?
It is because whether we want to go to Gauranga, Krishna, or Radha; we have to offer dandavats to and worship Nityananda first, which we do from the very left first. Nityananda qualifies and hands over the soul to Radha. So it all starts from Nityananda and ends with Radha, with Gauranga and Krishna in the middle resp.
It is also because Radha-dasyam is even more difficult to attain than Krishna-dasyam, just like Nityananda-dasyam is much easier to attain than Gauranga-dasyam. This is why Nityananda is the true Ishtadeva for all Gaudiyas in all rasas, whether they accept Him as such or not.
The syllables of निताइ and Their sequence of airwriting embodies this supreme and irrevocable truth. One can thus approach all Four of Them through Namlekhan starting from Nityananda first, even though one may not externally worship any of Their Deities.
Namlekhan is the topmost mansika (mental) Deity Worship, 1000 times more powerful than the normal Deity Worship. Just like mental japa is 1000 times more powerful than loud japa because it is equal to meditation (Hari Bhakti Vilasa: dhyan samo hi sah). With our palm in the air; we gently, slowly, and carefully cleanse, massage, and caress the divine Forms of the Lord just like the normal Deity Worship but more powerfully in our mind.
So there are no faults or the 64 seva-aparadhas of Deity Worship in Namlekhan, but only the full and exponentially magnified benefits of super-attentive Deity Worship. According to Srimad Bhagavatam, the Deity can be made in the mind just like the Deity can be made of stone, wood, metal, etc. And Namlekhan can be done anywhere, at anytime, with any clothes, and in any condition which does not hold the same for the normal Deity Worship.
While doing normal Deity Worship, if your mind is somewhere else, you will not get the desired result. But during Namlekhan, your mind can’t go anywhere else if you want it to, because you are visualizing Their forms in your mind and thus your mind is already fully occupied with the meditation on Their forms, qualities, and pastimes. What makes us remember the Lord is the easiest, instant, and the most intense manner should be accepted as a favorable sadhana by sadhakas, because for siddhas all sadhanas become equally powerful.
When they tell me they have done japa or kirtan, I ask them how much time they remembered the Lord during that japa or kirtan, because that is the very essence of all spiritual practices. I encourage them to increase that time of remembrance in japa and kirtan.
But when someone tells me that they have done Namlekhan, I don’t bother asking them how much they remembered the Lord during Namlekhan. You know why? Because the Namakshars are even more potent in inducing deeper and most importantly even more persistant remembrance than Namshabda.
And also because the movement of the palm and hand in the air forcibly (sveccha-purvika) makes us mentally visualize the Lord’s forms and pastimes in each stroke and syllable of the Name. We are just pulled into the Lord’s remembrance even if we are not so willing or qualified for it.
If we stop visualizing the Lord’s Forms while doing it, we will stop doing Namlekhan itself very soon. So the beauty of Namlekhan is that it cannot be done without remembrance, just for the sake of doing it. Thus Namlekhan is Sahaja Bhakti or the effortlessly and spontaneously induced remembrance of the Nami anytime, anywhere, and in any state of mind.
The transcendental plane has instantly come for the Kanyakubja brahmana because of his mental Deity Worship as described in Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu by Srila Rupa Goswami. Can you see it in the top left corner in the above picture? In the same way, it will come for us WITHOUT DELAY if we remember the Lord’s form and pastimes very deep within us by practicing Nityananda Namlekhan constantly till we die.
Namlekhan speeds up the advent of everything auspicious, including our flight to the nitya-lila. Nityananda’s worship is our passport and Nityananda Namlekhan is our visa to the nitya-lila because both of Them are totally offenseless and fully accessible even for the grossly envious conditioned souls.
One should feel, “Every single word of my Gurudeva’s vani about Nityananda is the most confidential secret of all secrets, which was never revealed before and which will never be revealed again. It is more precious than my very own life itself. So I will spend gallons of my blood and die trying to practice, preserve, and share this Vani to one and all.” Only such a devotee is a true disciple and a true worshiper of Nityananda through the worship of the vani of Nityananda’s aikantika bhakta.
